Gruinard Bay in Summer

Gruinard Bay is a remote coastal bay, measuring 5.5 miles along its western shore, and 4.5 miles on its eastern shore, and is located in the west coast of Scotland, 12 miles north of Poolewe.

It’s a beautiful place to visit with a good chance of seeing porpoises and dolphins.

Looking northeast from the bay, the Summer Isles can be seen and looking across the bay there are fantastic views of An Teallach and the Northern Highlands.

Approximately half a mile from the shore lies Gruinard Island, the rather infamous site of the biological warfare experiments of Anthrax in 1942, by government scientists. It was finally declared safe in 1990, after decontamination in 1986.
